DTS Retort Technology: Advancing Commercial Sterility in Canned Food and Pet Food Processing
In modern canned food processing and pet food manufacturing, achieving commercial sterility is essential to ensure product safety, extend shelf life, and maintain consistent quality during ambient storage.
Commercial sterility requires the elimination of harmful microorganisms, including heat-resistant spores such as Clostridium botulinum, as well as spoilage organisms that can grow under normal storage conditions. This process demands precise control of temperature, pressure, and heat distribution throughout the entire sterilization cycle.
To meet these requirements, retort sterilization systems must operate above 121°C, maintain stable pressure conditions, and ensure uniform thermal distribution within a narrow tolerance range. Any deviation may result in under-processing, product damage, or safety risks.

Engineered for Reliable Thermal Processing
DTS retort systems are designed to provide accurate and repeatable thermal sterilization performance. By combining indirect heating with a high-efficiency water spray retort system, DTS ensures uniform heat transfer to every container.
Heated process water is circulated and evenly distributed through multi-directional spray nozzles, forming a consistent thermal environment. This helps avoid localized overheating and reduces the risk of package deformation, especially for sensitive packaging such as glass jars and flexible pouches.
Consistent Temperature Distribution
Maintaining uniform temperature distribution is critical in achieving reliable sterilization results. DTS retorts are capable of controlling temperature variation within ±0.3°C, supporting stable F₀ value delivery and minimizing cold spot risks across the load.
Controlled Heating for Product Quality
DTS systems allow flexible and programmable heating profiles, enabling gradual temperature increases during the sterilization process. This approach reduces thermal stress on the product and helps preserve texture, flavor, and nutritional value—particularly important in high-quality canned food and pet wet food applications.

Efficient and Resource-Saving Operation
Compared to conventional immersion systems, DTS water spray retorts significantly reduce water usage and improve energy efficiency. Lower steam consumption contributes to reduced operational costs while supporting more sustainable food processing operations.
